Tribute Page

This page is devoted to one of the best rock bands in the business today, TOTO. Formed in 1977, TOTO first came to the attention of the world with their platinum-selling, eponymous debut album which produced such hit singles as “Georgy Porgy” and the immortal “Hold the Line”. In 1978 TOTO was nominated for a “Best New Artist” Grammy award (which they regrettably lost to A Taste of Honey).

TOTO went on to produce two subsequent albums, “Hydra” released in 1979 and “Turn Back” in 1980, but it wasn’t until 1982’s mega-smash “Toto IV” that the band became popular music superstars. The album went multi-platinum and garnered the band multiple Grammy awards including “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year” for their #1 hit “Rosanna”. Other hit tracks from “IV” include the romantic ballad “I Won’t Hold You Back” and the chart-topping “Africa”.

Since “IV” TOTO has produced 8 studio albums including “Isolation” in 1984,“Fahrenheit” in 1986—which also spawned the top-ten hit “I’ll Be Over You”“The Seventh One” in 1988—from which came the hit singles “Pamela” and “Stop Loving You”“Past to Present”, a gold-certified greatest hits collection with four new tracks in 1990, the hard-rocking “Kingdom of Desire” in 1992, and “Absolutely Live” a double live concert album.

Falling In Between Cover TOTO’s latest studio effort is “Falling In Between”, by far the band’s most musically experimental album to date. Now freed from the restraints of producing hit single after hit single, the boys finally get the opportunity to firmly establish themselves as true musical artists. The 11-track release contains material that runs the full gamut of musical genres. From prog rock to funk to jazz fusion and even gospel, “Falling In Between” is a true rennaissance album from the band that has always been ahead of its time! Greg Phillinganes joins the band on keyboards.
TTLG Cover Prior to Falling In Between, TOTO released “Through the Looking Glass,” which “re-imagines” 14 classic rock, blues, soul and reggae(!) tracks through the boys’ eyes and instruments. It traces the band’s influences from likes of Motown, Steely Dan, Bob Marley and the Whalers, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Costello. The album also commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the band. Also available in conjunction with “Through the Looking Glass” is a live concert CD and DVD (the first ever for the band!) entitled “Live from Amsterdam”.
Mindfields Cover TOTO’s previous release of all-original material, “Mindfields”, features the welcome return of original lead vocalist Bobby Kimball to the fold and features a fresh collection of 14 brand new studio cuts from the boys. The first single, “Melanie” made waves in Europe and Asia, and received significant airplay on adult contemporary radio throughout the U.S. A live concert album (aptly titled “Livefields”) was also released in Europe and Asia.
Toto XX Cover Six months prior to the release of “Mindfields”, TOTO released a collection of rare and previously unheard material which spans the 22-year history of the band. Under the auspicious title of “Toto XX”, the album features a little bit of something for fans of TOTO’s many incarnations. Its 13 tracks highlight the vocal stylings of Bobby Kimball and Joseph Williams, as well as the rhythms of current drummer Simon Phillips and the late Jeff Porcaro.
Tambu Cover The band’s previous release “Tambu” was critically hailed as “the best thing to come out of the TOTO camp since ‘IV’,” and features 13 great tracks ranging from up-tempo rockers to slow sensitive ballads. The first single, “I Will Remember” was heard on many adult contemporary radio stations in the U.S. and abroad, as well as VH1. It was also nominated for a “Best Engineered Non-Classical Album” Grammy, which it sadly lost to Quincy Jones’ album entitled “Q’s Jook Joint”.

This humble page is my own small way of helping to maintain public awareness of the band’s continued existence and endeavors. For the most comprehensive information, please visit TOTO’s Official Home Page via the link below. Find out all there is to know about one of the greatest rock bands in business! (All right, that opinion is more or less my own.)
